ASF is using Advanced Technologies Aimed at detecting threats of varying complexity

Firearms

Devices designed to cause serious injury by discharging a projectile or capable of being mistaken for such devices, including:

  • Firearms of all types, including pistols, revolvers, rifles, shotguns
  • Toy guns, replicas and imitation firearms capable of being mistaken for real weapons
  • Component parts of firearms (excluding telescopic sights)
  • Compressed air and CO2 guns, including pistols, pellet guns, rifles and ball bearing guns
  • Signal flares pistols and starter pistols
  • Bows, cross bows and arrows
  • Harpoon guns and spear guns
  • Sling shots and catapults

Stun Devices

Devices designed specifically to stun or immobilize, including:

  • Devices for shocking, such as stun guns (e.g. teasers) and stun batons
  • Animal stunners and animal killers
  • Disabling and incapacitating chemicals, gases and sprays, such as mace, pepper or capsicum spray, tear gas. acid sprays and animal repellent sprays.

Sharp Objects

Objects with a sharp point or sharp edge capable of being used to cause serious injury, including:

  • Items designed for chopping, such as axes, hatchets and cleavers
  • Ice axes and ice picks
  • Razor blades, box cutters
  • Knives with blades of more than 6 cm
  • Martial arts equipment with sharp points or sharp edges
  • Swords and sabers

Workers' Tools

Workers Tools capable of being used either to cause serious injury or to threaten the safety of aircraft, including:

  • Crowbars
  • Drills and drill bits, including cordless portable power drills
  • Tools with blades or shafts more than 6 cm. capable of use as weapons, such as screwdrivers
  • Chisels
  • Saws, including cordless portable power saws
  • Blowtorches
  • Bolt guns and nail turns

Blunt Instruments

Blunt Instruments capable of being used to cause serious injury when used to hit, including:

  • Baseball and softball bats
  • Clubs and batons, such as Billy clubs, blackjacks and night sticks
  • Martial arts equipment

Explosives

Explosive or incendiary substances or devices capable of being used to cause serious injury or threatening the safety of the aircraft, including:

  • Ammunition
  • Blasting caps
  • Detonators and fuses
  • Replica or imitation explosive devices
  • Mines, grenades and other explosive military stores
  • Pyrotechnics, including fireworks
  • Smoke-generating canisters or cartridges
  • Dynamite, gunpowder and plastic explosives

Carriage of Liquid

All liquids like gels, lotions, pastes, pressurized foams/sprays, foodstuff and cosmetics etc. up to 100 ml are allowed as hand baggage provided that these are:

  • Placed in transparent re-sealable bags.
  • Fitted comfortably
  • Fastened closed
  • One bag per passenger
  • Items like medicines (diabetic kit), baby food (pastes & liquids) and non-liquid cosmetics (solid deodorant, lipstick, powder foundation) are also allowed as hand baggage
  • Liquids over filled-in open bags and containers over 100ml must be packed into hold baggage only

Alarm Resolution

A system in which everyone has to divest metals/ dangerous articles at security check point before passing through it:

  • The passengers and functionaries have to divest themselves from all metallic items and place these in the trays for separate screening/ search through x-ray machine prior to walk through metal detector gates
  • Metal objects if not removed from the body will give alarm and the person will undergo additional screening until alarm is resolved
  • For your convenience pack all metal items, including the contents of your pockets, in your carry-on baggage. Mobile phones, pagers, keys, and loose change are examples of items containing metal
  • In case of suspicion/threat, ASF has the right to conduct manual body frisking

Shoe Screening

You may be asked to remove your shoes before you enter the walk-through metal detector. If you do not follow the Security regulations you will not be able to board the flight:

  • Avoid wearing shoes of thick/ heavy sole
  • Since a thorough screening includes X-ray inspection of footwear, for your own interest wear shoes that is easily removable helps to speed you through the screening process

Travelling Check List

Articles Prohibited in the Cabin of an Aircraft and in the Security Restricted Area for Safety Reasons

Make sure you know your baggage allowance and size restrictions

  • Hand baggage (the one that goes in the aircraft cabin with you)
  • Hold baggage (your suitcases which you will not have access during flight)
    Please note:
    This differs between airlines, so we advise you to contact your airline directly for further information.
  • To ease your journey, we suggest that you pack most items in your hold baggage and that items you carry in hand baggage are limited to what you need whilst on-board the aircraft or valuable items only
  • No sharp objects, such as scissors, are allowed in your hand baggage
  • If carrying liquids*, gels or aerosols, these will only be allowed in individual containers with a total capacity of no more than 100ml (or 100g in weight). They must all fit comfortably in a transparent, re-sealable bag measuring no larger than 20cm by 20cm (8 inches by 8 inches). Larger items should be placed in your hold baggage
  • Exemptions to the restrictions on liquids and gels apply if they are to be used during the trip and are either needed for medical purposes or are a special dietary requirement, including baby milk/food
  • Plan to arrive at the airport early to allow extra time to go through security
  • If you have any queries, please contact ASF for further information
  • Please check your hand baggage in the gauge provided by the check-in desks. You will be asked questions about your baggage and its contents when you check in
  • As soon as you have checked in, we advise you to make your way through security. Please be patient as there may be a queue while these additional security measures are in place
  • Have your boarding pass ready to show to a member of our security staff
  • Have your transparent re-sealable bag ready for inspection
  • Ensure it is fastened closed
  • If travelling with liquid medicines, liquid/paste baby foods, remove them from your hand baggage for inspection
  • Leave items like coins, keys, mobile phones and wallets in your jacket or coat pocket or hand baggage for X-ray
  • Take off your coat or jacket whilst you are in the security queue to prepare for the X-ray machines
  • Remove any large electrical items, such as laptops, from your hand baggage as these will need to go through X-ray machines separately
  • You may also be asked to remove shoes. So be prepared to take them off
  • When it’s your turn to go through security, place your transparent, re-sealable closed bag of liquids into a tray, along with your coat or jacket for X-ray examination. If you have been asked to remove your shoes, place these in a tray too
  • Place any large electrical items such as a laptop computer into another tray. Do not place anything underneath or on top of the laptop computer
  • Finally, place your one item of hand baggage into a tray for X-ray examination
  • Any liquid/paste medicines should be placed in your plastic bag and made available for X-ray inspection. If you carry any essential medicines in containers over 100ml or carry them separately in your transparent re-sealable bag (for example if your bag is full with other liquids) you will need the prior approval of ASF authorities. You will be asked to sample the items or rub them onto your skin to prove that they are safe
  • Proceed through security check (Walk through Gate/Frisking) and collect all your belongings
  • Your bags may be searched by a member of our staff after X-ray examination
  • You may also be subject to a body search
  • All shops and catering outlets are open to all passengers. All items purchased in the departure lounge may be taken into the aircraft cabin
